The return of Gary Snoman

He's baaaaack!!!

As they've been doing the last couple of years, the guys at Blueprint Ventures have sent out an animated clip for the holiday season featuring Gary Snoman, everybody's favorite ice-based VC. This year, Gary takes a trip to all the major international high-tech hot spots, including... Israel!

"Forget Silicon Valley, this is Technion search technology. You guys can't compete, I mean, you don't even have compulsory military service." Hee.

Counting the Web

CountingThe other day, I saw that Roi had posted an item about defining Web 3.0. As it turns out, I've been doing a lot of research lately on the Semantic Web (which is more or less the best candidate for the Web 3 label), and I began to sigh.

Yes folks, here we go again.

For the past two years or so I've had I don't know how many conversations along the lines of, "what is Web 2.0?" or, "there's no such thing as Web 2.0" or, "isn't Web 2.0 a big bubble?"

The thought of having to start all over again with Web 3 just fills me with dread. It also got me to thinking, why Web 3.0? What happened to Web 2.5? Or Web 1.5 for that matter?

I think you guys can see where this is going, but the next logical step was to get on the Google and see where you go when you start counting Web. And here's what I found:

Whew. Now that that's done, I think I'm going back to web 0.5 and be done with it.

Shpigler tells it straight

Everybody and their dog has either linked to or emailed me about this rather amusing video from a guy calling himself Shpigler about how to deal with VCs. As they say, it's funny because it's true.

But let's let the video speak for itself:

Web 2.0 in a Nutshell

This video was taken at one of the work sessions at the recent SXSW conference in Austin. In its snarky, cynical, humorous way it captures the essence of so many of the Web 2.0 companies we come across:

Ali G. pitches a company

Special for Purim, here is one of the funniest investor-related clips I've come across courtesy of Sacha "Ali G" Baron-Cohen:

Google uses Israeli typesetters...

Googel_1

This story cracked me up. If it's true, then Eric Schmidt is walking around with business cards that name him as "Chariman" of Google's Executive Committee. (Theories as to  what the typo means can be found in the article and its comments).

Geez, a market cap of $137 billion and they get the same quality copy editing as your average Israeli restaurant menu.
